Can you imagine your life without a warm home, colors, feelings, love, joy, smells, weather, music or dancing? The movie “The Giver” inspired me to write this article. It is about a controlled environment without any of the above mentioned wonderful things in life. People are under medication so they have no emotions and they can see the whole world only in black and white. They don’t see the good nor the bad.
Did you ever have the feeling that everything is black and white for you and nothing can make you actually happy. Even if you have the “perfect dream life” with a nice apartment, loving boyfriend or girlfriend, well-paying job, traveling, friends, you can still feel empty. Somehow you cannot appreciate them. I had that feeling once in my life and it was one of the most depressing feelings I’ve ever felt. I had also that kind of guilty pressure on my chest because I had no real problems and many people would of love to live the life I did. But how come I couldn’t feel the value of it?
There is only one way out: You must Be Thankful!
Sounds easy, right? Let me tell you something it is definitely not easy, because it is not enough to say thank you! You have to feel it deep inside your heart, so that negative pressure from before can disappear. Being thankful and loving yourself are very important and the first two steps of self-improvement. Let me give you the base what to be thankful for:
The miracle of life:
No mater how long you live it is a very short period of time in the history of the world. You being part of it is a wonderful gift. Listen to your heart beat and say thank you each day for being alive.
The miracle of feeling:
Love, passion, happiness, anger, loss, satisfaction, etc. Without them we would be like empty robots. How we can cry, laugh and feel is definitely something to be grateful for. Enjoy them!
The miracle of senses:
The smell of the rain, the warmth of the sun, the touch of a hand, a loving kiss are indescribable if you never experienced it. Say thank you that you can see the colorful world, that you can touch things, that you can hear the best melodies and that you can taste delicious meals.
The miracle of nature:
Stop for a second and watch the trees, the flowers, the mountains, the animals, the corn fields whatever you have where you live. The rivers, the little birds, the different changes of nature by the season. I could list out a million wonders of nature. Don’t walk by them! The time you start to realize them you will also take much better care of them. Be grateful!
The miracle of friends:
I am the luckiest person in the world because of my friends. We have so
many fun, sad, mad, crazy stories together. The dinners, the ski trips, the nights out were memories I will never forget. I’m sure you have a friend/friends as well. Say thank you for them, because they are very special.
The miracle of family:
Your mom, your dad, your sisters and brothers, your grandparents, the uncles and aunts, the cuisines are the people who you have from the first day you were born. No matter how the relationship is or how close you are with them, they are part of you and you have to say thank you for having them. They are amazing! Love them all.
