“It’s not happiness that brings us gratitude. It’s gratitude that brings us happiness!”
They say love and gratitude are the strongest and most positive energies that can effect our lives. It’s the same as watering a seed that you plant so one day a flower will blossom. You need to take good care of it and water it everyday so it grows and continue to do that even when it’s a beautiful flower parading in amazing colors, otherwise it will be gone.
A couple of years back I created a new habit: the attitude of gratitude. This was a time when I was pretty much depressed as I was always stressed, I was stuck in a life I didn’t want anymore but could not figure out how to get out of the negative vibration. I felt I’m in catch 22: I needed to change my thinking to positive so I can slowly get out of the mud I was deeply stuck in, but how do I do that without feeling good about myself and my life? This is when my new habit came handy.
I started to list out the things I am grateful for in life. Day by day as I was writing my list, I realised the hundreds of amazing areas of my life that I can be happy for and I slowly started to notice things which I have not seen before as my focus shifted from things I don’t have or hate to things that I have and love. I was pretty surprised I am grateful for so many things, as I thought my life is crap. This simple exercise changed my life as I have learnt to look at the positive side of everything!
This is no magic: Shift your focus to things you love and feel grateful for and you will notice, attract and have more of those!
The Jar of Gratitude : A simple tip for practicing the attitude of gratitude !
I am going to share with you a very simple but creative and fun way of using the power of gratitude.
You will need:
- 1 jar
- 1 pen
- Lots of paper of any color cut into smaller pieces
This is how you create the Jar of Gratitude:
1, List out 50 things that you are grateful for in your life!
Write 50 things you are grateful for in your life on the papers. Each of them on a separate one and throw it in the jar! Add in things you like doing, people you love, things you find beautiful etc.
You can decorate your jar with a ribbon or a nice sign!
2, Add 3 more things in your jar each day!
Write 3 more things at the end of each day that you feel grateful for! Maybe it’s something you achieved, maybe it’s someone you’ve met or a simple laugh you had with a friend. Throw it in!
3, Pull one out if you feel down!
If you are in a bad mood or you feel down, please take one gratitude note out of the jar and read it out loud. Think about how that make you feel. Take another one and continue to do it until you feel better!
I encourage you to set up your own jar of gratitude today! You can do it with your family and kids, I’m sure they’ll enjoy it a lot as well. Experience the power of gratitude for yourself, it will change your life!
