One of my greatest aha moment was when I realised:
I have a lot of limiting beliefs, negative thinking patterns and that they are standing in the way between me and my dream life!
They are the voices in our head telling us things we cannot do, why it’s not possible, that it’s not O.K how we are right now, that we are not good enough and I could go on for hours listing out all the beliefs I had in my head at some point of my life.
They used to limit me, but today I think of them as friends, not best friends, just old ones, who stayed around. I still have some of them – the sticky ones that are just not giving in and leaving- but I consider them as a reminder of improvement.
There are hundreds of negative thinking patterns and sometimes we are super creative in establishing a new one. But usually most of us befriended the following ones and even though they are old friends and we don’t have anything in common anymore, we just can’t seem to let them go.
3 negative thinking beliefs that are stopping you from living the life you want:
1.) ‘I don’t have time!’
Everyone think of themselves as super busy. There is always something to do, a task to fulfil. We live in a world where everyone is in a hurry and we don’t have time for the most important thing: for ourselves and our dreams! If we keep repeating: ‘I don’t have time!’, we will definitely have less and less time! But if we focus on the many things we do have time for we will feel much more relaxed!
Tip! Make a time diary for a week listing out what you do exactly, when you do it and for how long. Once the week is done, look at it and see which tasks could be removed or shortened.
Could you make it more efficient? (ie. Each day a different parent could take the kids to school or pre-plan meals and go shopping for food only once a week)
Now make a list of all the things you would do if you had more time! Highlight two of them which would be the most important for you! Choose only positive things, ones that make you happy or more energetic! Incorporate them in your weekly schedule!
2.) ‘I have to be perfect.’
This is a tricky little devil as it can hide or disguise itself!
Look at the below statements are they true about you?
- Doing 100 % is the minimum!
- I compare myself with others all the time!
- Everyone has to like me!
- I am not good enough!
- Making mistakes is not Ok!
Once we realise we are okay the way we are and we don’t have to be perfect in all areas of our life, we can remove a huge amount of pressure!
Tip! A good way to start to let go this limiting belief is to list out what your fears are. What happens if you are not perfect?
Ask yourself: What is the worst thing that can happen regarding my fear?
For example: I fear that not all people will like me.
What is the worst thing that can happen? One person won’t like and that will make me feel sad! But I can list 20 other people who love me.

3.) ‘I can’t do it!’
If you pick one belief to work on, this is definitely the one! If you can let this go and set up a belief that is opposite: ’ I can do everything I really want!’, your life is going to change significantly in a positive way!
Usually the biggest limit in life is the belief that there is a limit! Remember, negative thinking is limiting you from achieving your dreams!
Tip! What would you do if anything was possible? List out all your dreams and now answer this question: Do I believe I can do it or do I believe I can’t?
Do you think you need to change your mind set and attitude towards some of your dreams? Keep on cleaning your old school, limiting beliefs and life will change in a positive way for you!
